In December we finally managed to try curling, having had to cancel two years ago due to heavy snowfall. Curling is a little like bowls on ice. There are two teams and they take turns sliding heavy stones towards a target. The team who ends up nearest the centre is the winner. Easy?

For this years Christmas party we finally managed to try curling, having had to cancel two years ago due to heavy snowfall. Curling is a little like bowls on ice. There are two teams and they take turns sliding heavy stones towards a target. The team who ends up nearest the centre is the winner. Easy?

Fentons rink is based on a farm outside Tunbridge Wells and has a special curling ice rink in one of its barns. It’s the closest curling rink to London.

On arrival they showed us a DVD of how to play the game and issued us with our special curling shoes. These are a bit like bowling shoes but have a special grips and a cover on one foot that come off to reveal a special slidey sole underneath.

Our instructor split us into two teams and gave us a quick intro on the technique.

After 2 hours of increasingly intense competition the winning team was decided on the very last throw.

We returned to London to talk over the game and drink a couple of well earned cocktails at the Hide Bar before a delicious dinner at Magdalen.
